This was the second photo shoot for Helen’s baby girl. She has a Baby’s First Year Voucher which entitles her to three photo shoots, each with a free photo. At the first photo shoot Helen’s baby girl was tiny and couldn’t even sit up, but this time she was definitely on the move. The baby was joined by her big brother for the photos. He is three years old and enjoyed playing up for the camera and being very boisterous. His baby sister just watched, no doubt looking forward to the time when she can run around just like him.

The ‘Granny Photo’ – Perfect Present for a Relative
October 12, 2009Quite often when I do a shoot, the parent wants a really nice photo of their children to give as a present to granny or other relatives. We call this the ‘granny photo’. It’s usually quite a traditional shot with the children facing the camera and with big smiles on their faces. I try to make the smiles seem natural, rather than the ‘say cheese’ variety. It is all about the expressions on the children’s faces.
I took some photographs of this four year old girl and her two year old brother for their parents Tammy and Michael last week. Here are some of the shots that would make perfect Christmas presents for granny!

Chorlton Family Photography Publicity Cards – New Photos
September 15, 2009These are the two children I photographed last year and they became the cover stars for my Chorlton Family Photography publicity cards. I photographed them again last week and here they are – almost a year older but still as gorgeous as ever.
The little girl also stars on the home page of my website at http://www.chorltonfamilyphotography.co.uk

Exhibition in a Bar – All Over Their Faces
July 19, 2009Some of my photographs are being exhibited in a bar (called The Bar) in Chorlton, Manchester, during July and August. The exhibition is called ‘All Over Their Faces’ because children can’t hide their feelings – they are written all over their faces. Usually when I take photographs of children, the parents want me to show their children looking happy, or at least with a pleasant expression on their faces. I was interested in trying something different for a change. The photographs are all close ups of faces and include hand gestures to emphasise the children’s moods – aggressive, sulky, pensive, giggly and apprehensive.

Nursery Photographs
July 14, 2009I recently took some photographs for the Kids Allowed nursery in Chorlton, Manchester. I try to make my nursery photographs a bit different by providing high quality, black and white images. I use bubbles to help the children relax and the nursery staff are always great at helping to get the babies and toddlers to smile.
Below are a couple of examples of my nursery photographs. To protect children’s privacy these photographs are from a previous nursery job and not from the Kids Allowed photo shoot.
Here are some comments from parents at the nursery:
‘I’d like to say a big thank you for the wonderful photos that you took of my two daughters at Kids Allowed recently. The eldest at 3 and a half years, really does not like having her photo taken and has cried her way through the couple of formal sessions we’ve taken her to in the past, but she looks so happy and relaxed in your images. You really have captured her – and her younger sister – wonderfully, and we’ll treasure the pictures.’
‘I love the photograph, it really captures my child. I think that they are very well priced and the style and the fact that it’s black and white is lovely.’
‘Delighted with:
The photograph – its refreshing to see a black background and the clarity of the picture is excellent. The price – would always buy at such a reasonable price. The combination of prints available – I am so fed up with the big companies that restrict the combinations and charge such huge prices so that you end up having to buy a pack and end up with spare pictures that are not needed.’
‘We loved the photo of our son. He is such a monkey at the minute for sitting still so we’re pleasantly surprised to even have a photo let alone a beautiful shot to keep. Many thanks.’

Brother and Sister Photo Shoot
July 13, 2009Vicky booked me to photograph her two children as a birthday present for her dad. Her daughter is eight and really enjoyed acting up for the camera – she’s a great fan of Britain’s Got Talent! The little boy is two years old and he adores his big sister. I set up the ‘mobile studio’ at their home in Whalley Range, Manchester and we had a great Saturday morning.

Boisterous Brothers
July 9, 2009I photographed two brothers aged 5 and 2 in Chorlton, Manchester. I met their mum at a National Childbirth Trust Sale in Didsbury where she was selling her book ‘Babes in the City’, an excellent guide to things to do with your kids in Manchester. I had a stall there showing examples of my photographs – she bought one of my photography vouchers and I bought one of her books!
The two boys loved playing with each other and acting up for the camera – here are some samples from the shoot.
